The #1 Reason You Need a Blog for Your Business
Dear Name,
Many clients often ask me, “Caroline, I already have a Website. What do I need a blog for?”
That’s a great question! And there are several reasons: they help you build relationships with your customers, they establish you as an expert in your field, they help you sell more of your products and services, and a whole host of other advantages.
But the biggest and most important benefit, and the one I teach you to do in Biz Blogging Basics, is improved Search Engine Optimization, or SEO.
Blogs improve your search engine ranking. For blogs separate from your Website, creating blog posts with links back to your Website will increase your link popularity, which is a big deal to the search engines. It’s part of what they use to determine your site’s ranking, or how high your Website appears on the search results page when someone types in a keyword relating to your business.
For blogs connected to your Website domain, a regularly updated blog adds new content to your Website, another thing the search engines use to determine your site’s ranking. The more blog posts, the more your site is indexed by the search engines, and the higher your site stays in the rankings.
Increased Web Traffic = Increased Sales. Every blog post is another doorway into your Website—if it is optimized with keywords and links to your site. An optimized blog post will appear in keyword results, which will lead searchers to click over to your blog to learn more about you and your services and, ultimately, visit your Website and buy something!
So you can see why having a blog is so important.
That’s all for this time. Watch out for Day 2 of this e-course, where we delve into the two different types of blogs, and which one is right for your business.
Until then . . .
To Your Business Blogging Success,

Subject: Name, Your Biz Blogging Basics E-Course Lesson Two
Hi, Name
Welcome to Day Two of Your Fr ee Biz Blogging Basics E-Course. In today’s lesson, I’ll show you the two types of business blogs, and how to determine which one is right for you.
There are two basic types of blogs, and each one has its own style:
Corporate blogs. These blogs are published by a company, business, organization, or group, and represent the views of more than one individual within an organization. This type of blog is common in companies where someone other than the owner will be blogging on a regular basis. They can be written by several employees, or even a specialized staff blogger or freelance ghost blogger.
Individual blogs. These blogs are written by one person, usually the CEO, owner, president, or other leader of an organization.
So how do you know which format is right for you and your business?
If you’re a solo business owner, the answer is easy, as writing your blog will come down to you and only you. You are passionate about the work you’re doing and know more about your business.
For companies with many employees, the decision becomes a little more difficult to make. If the CEO is going to blog, he or she must make sure they have plenty of time in their schedule to keep blogging on an ongoing basis. If not, then one or more employees can be assigned the task, or your company can hire a ghost blogger.
What type of blog you choose to create will in part determine its unique “voice” or tone.
Your blog’s “voice” is your blog’s view of the world. It is your perspective, the way you see the world.
For your blog to be popular and to consistently attract readers, you must develop a distinctive voice. Here are a couple of tips:
-Resonate with your target audience. Write for the people who “get” you and your product or service. Don’t try to be all things to all people.
-Be honest. Be upfront with people and call it like you see it. People want honesty from a resource they trust.
That’s all the time we have for today. Watch your inbox tomorrow for the third lesson, where we talk about the best blogging platform for you to use.

Hello, Name,
Welcome to Lesson Four of your Biz Blogging Basics E-Course.
Today we’re going to discuss how to create blog posts the search engines will love.
So, you’ve got your blog host, you’ve installed WordPress, and you’re ready to blog. Right?
Actually, there’s one more step. A step so important that, if you leave it out, making a hundred posts a day to your blog simply won’t matter.
You also need to make sure that the search engines can find your blog posts. Here’s two tips that tell you how:
-Know your keywords.
What keywords do you want your customers to use to find you on the Web? You should also use these keywords in your blog posts, in the headline and body copy.
They can also be keywords your target market is already using to find you or a competitor.
Don’t know which keywords people are using to find you? There are plenty of tools on the Web—some fr ee and some paid—that can help you find out.
-Organize your blog.
Once you know what keywords you want to use, you need to set up categories in WordPress that correspond to your top keywords. These are the topics you will be blogging about the most.

Hi, Name,
Caroline Melberg here again with the fifth lesson in your Biz Blogging Basics E-Course.
Today, I’d like to talk about how to blog like a pro. Here are six secrets that will make your blog professional and popular.
-Find your voice and offer a unique perspective
-Stay “on topic”—don’t ramble on about anything and everything that interests you, unless you can tie it into the main theme of your blog.
-Keep your posts as short as possible. Most blogs offer smaller, bite-sized posts, usually 50-100 words tops. If you have a really long post, break it up into several shorter posts and present it as a series spread out over multiple days.
-Post regularly. The search engines love fresh content, so you’ll keep your search engine ranking higher this way. Also, your readers will look forward to seeing new content. If they keep coming back only to find the same posts they read weeks ago, they’ll stop visiting your blog.
-Break your posts into short paragraphs. Reading long blocks of unbroken text online is hard on the eyes. Help your readers out by separating your text into smaller pieces.
-Remember the keywords that you gathered and make sure to include them in each and every post.
That’s all for today. In the next lesson, we’ll talk about promoting your blog. If you want to learn more steps on how to blog like a pro, check out Biz Blogging Basics: Your DIY Kit to Successful Business Blogging by clicking here.

Hello, Name
Welcome to Day Six of your Fr ee Seven Day Biz Blogging Basics E-Course.
Today we’re going to show you how to 3 tips for promoting your blog.
-Post comments on other blogs and forums
The simplest way to promote your own blog is to post comments on other blogs and forums relating to your business, and including a link to your blog.
If you’re an auto mechanic for example, you can visit other blogs written by auto mechanics and comment on them. When you post a comment, you are usually allowed to list a Website, which is where you put your blog’s Web address.
Just make sure you add something meaningful to the discussion. Answer a question, agree or disagree with the other blogger, or add additional points to what they wrote.
-Use trackbacks
A trackback is an entry you make on your blog that comment on someone else’s blog. It acknowledges that a blog post has been linked to on another blog.
-Write articles and press releases
You should send out a press release when you start your blog, to let the press and important people in your industry know of its presence. You should also write articles and post them on article directories online, with a link to your blog. Articles are a great way to establish you as an expert in your field, as well as driving traffic to your blog.
There you have it, three simple tips for promoting your new business blog. For even more promotion tips, including a video tutorial on how to promote your blog successfully using trackbacks, check out Biz Blogging Basics: Your DIY Kit to Successful Business Blogging by clicking here.

- The Two Types of Blogs and How to Choose Which One is Right for Your Business
- What Is the Best Blogging Platform to Use and Why
- How to Create Blog Posts the Search Engines Will Love
- How to Blog Like a Pro
- How to Promote Your Blog
In the seventh and final lesson, we’re going to show you 5 ways to overcome the dreaded blogger’s block!
It happens to all of us every now and then. You’re sitting down to write a blog post and nothing happens! You suddenly realize that you have no idea what you want to write about! What do you do? Below are six pointers that will eliminate bloggers’ block for good.
-Blog regularly. I know what you’re thinking. If you don’t have anything to blog about, how will blogging regularly help? Well, the more often you blog, the more you’ll keep your eyes open for things to blog about. I know that if I let too much time pass between posts, it’s always harder to get back into the groove.
-Keep a blog ideas list. You never know when you’ll get a great idea for a blog post, so keep a list of your ideas. This can be a notebook, a file on your computer, whatever. Write down your ideas, keep them handy, and the next time you’re stuck for an idea you’ll be able to give yourself some instant inspiration.
-Read other blogs. This may sound too obvious, but one of the best ways to find material for your blog is to read other people’s blogs, not to copy them or rehash what they said, but to offer your won opinion about what they said on your blog.
-Read industry or trade journals. These can be a goldmine for blog post ideas.
-Write a book review. Have you read a book recently that pertains to what you do? Write a review of that book and publish it on your blog.
-Interview someone. This can be a vendor or supplier for your industry or other expert. Just ask them what challenges they face or other questions your audience might be interested in knowing more about, and publish their answers on your blog.
And that’s it, six tips for beating that annoying blogger’s block. For even more tips, check out Biz Blogging Basics: Your DIY Kit to Business Blogging Success by going here.
